2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Trendline: A Quick Overview

One of this week’s specials at BetterWay Auto Superstore is the very accomplished 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Trendline. The SUV was designed to sit underneath the larger Tuareg and compete directly with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape.
The Volkswagen has a simple, rounded design that has the characteristic VW grille up front and angled lights. A curved hood and angled windshield isn’t exactly aerodynamic but gives the Tiguan a solid, dependable profile. Fluted panels, roof rails and a rising beltline combine to create a great looking SUV that is as easy to look at as it is to drive.
On the inside, you would never know this SUV was the same size as a RAV4. Passenger space is plentiful across both rows and offers decent cargo space too. The seats are comfortable and supportive, head and legroom is plentiful, dials and switches are solid and reassuring and everything seems very well put together.
The driving position is excellent. You sit high up and have great visibility all around. The position is upright and has all controls within easy reach. The height and the build quality inspires confidence as you drive.
Driving force
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine that delivers around 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. It sends that power to all wheels through a six speed automatic transmission. The drive is smooth, power delivery steady and the entire experience is quite refined.
Volkswagen knows how to put together a drivetrain and bolt it onto a chassis and suspension setup that makes best use of it. The 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Trendline is no different. While an SUV to its very core, driving is refined, cornering smooth and with very little body roll. Steering is responsive too, creating the impression that you are driving something much smaller than you are.
