2022 Ram 2500 Review
Posted on May 30, 2022
We got to spend some time with the 2022 Ram 2500 the other day. We don’t see these very often as once Rams arrive, they are usually collected immediately.
That’s why we leapt into the opportunity to take a look around this beast of a truck.
It’s a capable truck but still easy to drive and to live with, but is it better than the Ram 1500? Here's our 2022 Ram 2500 review
2022 Ram 2500 design
The 2022 Ram 2500 has a range of different designs depending on the trim or special edition you buy.
However, overall, the truck is imposing and similar in shape to the 1500, writ large. It has a tall front end with large grille and trim and Ram badge.
It also has a similar light and lower sill arrangement to the 1500, with an equally detailed hood with centre bulge.
The rest of the truck is standard fare. Simple panels, high ride height, double car and truck bed at the back.
There isn’t a great deal you can do with a truck design to make it stand out but Ram has done a good job with what they have.
Ram interiors have always been a highlight and the 2022 Ram 2500 is no different.
The cabin is spacious with plenty of room for passengers and storage. It also has good visibility thanks to its height and lots of glass.
As always, start basic with wipe down materials and basic instruments or climb up the trim levels for leather, real wood and more technology.
Under the hood
The 2022 Ram 2500 has a couple of engine options to choose from. There’s the standard 6.4-litre V8 that produces 410 hp. It uses an eight speed automatic transmission.
There is also a couple of Cummins diesel options, a 6.7-litre inline 6 that produces 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque or another with the same horsepower but 1,000 lb-ft of torque. The diesels use a 6 speed automatic transmission.
Outfitted correctly, the diesels can tow up to 15,875 kg!
That’s a lot for a truck that’s in the mid-range of a lineup.
2022 Ram 2500 features
The 2022 Ram 2500 can be specified as a basic work truck or outfitted to be a luxurious cruiser.
Base Tradesman trim is spartan with wipe clean materials, basic instruments and safety tech.
Climb up the trim ladder a little and you’ll get a larger touchscreen, leather interior, real wood trim and other niceties.
You’ll need to pay extra for safety gear though. That’s optional really, as you’ll come out best in most collisions you’re ever likely to be involved in.
Safety tech includes automatic emergency braking, active lane control and adaptive cruise control. These are options and will all cost extra.
This was our 2022 Ram 2500 review. The look and feel of the 2022 Ram 2500 is great. It’s a solid, reassuring truck that cannot help but inspire confidence. Maybe that’s why they are never on the lot for long!
