2022 Kia Stinger teased
Posted on March 17, 2021
We knew the Kia Stinger was due an update at some point this year but we didn’t know what or when. An accidental listing by a Californian Kia dealership has let the cat out the bag, so we now have a good idea of what to expect.
The above image was taken from Citrus Motors showing a full view of the 2022 Kia Stinger. At the time of writing, the page is still up and showing the new model in all its glory.
The reveal was originally set for March 16 but the new model was displayed on the above website around two weeks earlier.
2022 Kia Stinger
The new 2022 Kia Stinger has a few minor updates from the previous version but it’s enough to give it a whole new look.
We have new LED headlights up front, the new Kia logo, what looks to be a slightly revised grille, new rear end design with larger exhausts and different bodywork, new taillights and a full width light bar.
A set of what look like new wheels completes the look on the outside.
The interior looks largely unchanged. It’s a lovely interior, both cozy and spacious, cosseting and relaxed. The driving position is superb and comes with very supportive seats and an analog instrument panel. It’s old school but in a good way and something we like to see.
There looks to be a new centre touchscreen in the dealership images but we cannot confirm that.
Under the hood is supposed to be the same 3.3-litre V6 engine with a slight power upgrade to 368 hp with a new variable exhaust. The old 2.0-litre four is apparently out and is replaced by a new turbocharged 2.5-litre four cylinder that generates 300 hp.
We expect the same high level of features that include automatic headlights, ventilated front seats, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and driver-attention monitor.
We also expect an upgrade in terms of materials, comfort and interior build quality but that remains to be seen.
The current Stinger offers an exceptional drive with great handling and lots of power. We fully expect the 2022 Kia Stinger to offer the same or better. Kia has gone from strength to strength in terms of design and build and the Stinger has shown that the brand isn’t all about sedans and crossovers.
The Stinger is a genuine competitor in the performance car market and while it doesn’t have the following of Audi or BMW, it really should.
Even though the reveal has now officially happened, it was good to get a preview last week. We can’t wait to get a test vehicle here so we can see it for real!
