Take a Look at the 2022 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD

Last week I was lucky enough to get up close and personal with a brand new 2022 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD. A friend of my wife had bought one and driven it to our house to show it off.

Despite my liking for electric vehicles and the seismic shift towards renewables, there is still something about a nice engine that tickles the lizard brain.

This is no V8 muscle car but the Kia has just the right engine note to reassure me there is still life in combustion yet.

The 2022 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD is a four door sports sedan that singlehandedly proves there is also still life in the sedan configuration yet.

Sure, German sedans and some domestics still sell strongly, but for me it’s the Stinger that proves the point.

The design is superb. I liked the Stinger when it was first released and it keeps getting better.

It’s long and low with a large lower grille and a narrow centre grille. Angled lights at each corner sit above large air ducts to give the front a mean look. A pair of vents in the hood completes the look.

A steeply raked windshield helps keep things aero and a curved room, wide hips and flowing rear end shows that this car means business.

A single light bar at the back is divided where the trunk opens and reminds me a little of older Mazdas, in a good way. A set of quad pipes underneath a modest rear splitter finishes everything off

Inside, the cabin is simple but very effective. It reminds me of a Mercedes-Benz, with the silver switches, rounded vents and small widescreen.

The build quality is similar too, with no rattles or loose fittings anywhere.

The seats are extremely comfortable with adjustable front seats and support everywhere you need it, including on each side.

Under the hood of the 2022 Kia Stinger

The 2022 Kia Stinger uses a 3.3-litre V6 that delivers 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque to the rear or all wheels in this case, using an 8 speed automatic transmission.

There isn’t a lot of spare space within that engine bay as it’s all engine. It’s a tidy looking motor that delivers power throughout the range.

The engine includes torque vectoring and five driving modes for a little extra dynamism.

I didn’t get to drive the Stinger for obvious reasons but the engine sounded sweet and smooth. My friend said it pulled throughout the rev range and handled the combination of highways and twisty roads to my house with ease.

Hopefully, once he has had it for a little longer, he will let me have a drive when I see him next!

The 2022 Kia Stinger is on sale now and can be ordered from Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8.
