2021 Kia Sorento X-Line teased

Ford weren’t the only automaker to tease a new model, Kia has been doing the same thing. They teased the 2021 Kia Sorento X-Line and announced it would be coming to North America today.
The X-Line is Kia’s ‘rugged’ marque that denotes a slightly more off road version of a current model. In this case, a more rugged version of the popular Sorento SUV.
The due date for the 2021 Kia Sorento X-Line is today, September 22. We expect it to reflect the updates we’re getting for the standard Sorento with a few extras thrown in.
Sorento X-Line
The teaser image above shows a ruggedized Sorento in a smart green colour with an X-Line badge. That green looks like the Undercover Green colour we have seen on other X-Line images.
There is a distinct lack of chrome trim on the Sorento X-Line, which is a good thing. In the supplementary image Kia showed, the SUV had black trim, black wheels, black light surrounds and black roof rails. All combined with the green colour to deliver a great looking car that looked like it meant business.
The design of the Sorento has been updated to look much more contemporary. I think it’s one of the most attractive accessible SUVs around. It has a bold but not aggressive front when with modest tiger nose grille, angled LED lighting, a steeply raked windshield and slightly curved roof.
The rear is tidy with modest LED lighting and some detailing around the licence plate. It rides relatively high on a set of nice alloy wheels.
Inside, the new Sorento looks to have made improvements in materials and fit. You still get the same excellent visibility and passenger space, which is a good thing.
Under the skin
We won’t know much more about the 2021 Kia Sorento X-Line until the official reveal later. We think it will use the same turbocharged 2.5-litre four cylinder engine as the global model that delivers 277 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
There is also supposed to be a hybrid version on the way with a 1.6-litre four cylinder with electric motor. This is said to deliver the same 277 hp along with 258 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid uses a six speed automatic to drive all four wheels.
A PHEV version of the Sorento is due soon.
Sorentos are usually packed with safety kit and we expect the same for the X-Line. We don’t have specific details as yet but we should all know within a few hours.
