After the news of the new Kia Carnival earlier this week, we think now is a good time to take a look at the industry-leading minivan, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica.
While I don’t have a family to haul, I don’t mind this minivan at all. The seats fold down and I could get two mountain bikes in there along with bags of kit. That makes it a winner in my eyes!
For those of you that do have families to move, there are few genuine competitors to the Pacifica. It’s big, has three rows, lots of internal storage and yet drives a lot like a car. It looks pretty good too, so what’s not to like?
The Pacifica has always been a good design. The best configuration a vehicle of this shape and size could be. It’s a minivan, there is no escaping that but it doesn’t look like one and certainly doesn’t feel like one when you’re behind the wheel.
The design is all Chrysler, with the familiar grille and badge and angled lighting, a raked hood and windshield looks very aero while flowing over a rounded roof down to the rear. Side panels have a little detailing to add interest and the ride height is a little higher than a car for flexibility.
The interior is top class. It’s spacious, well-appointed, has plenty of storage, second and third row seating folds into the floor and the space then becomes cavernous.
Seats are comfortable and adjustable, the Stow ‘n Go seats are comfortable and conveniently fold flat for trips to the hardware store. Interior fit and finish is superb and each row is a genuinely nice place to be.
You can upgrade the second row to captain’s chairs but they don’t fold flat.
Up front, you get a 10.1” touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, USB ports and Bluetooth. You can upgrade to leather if you want and there’s a very nice 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system available as an extra.
Engine and mechanicals
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica comes with a 3.6-litre V6 engine capable of 287 hp. It uses a slick 9 speed automatic transmission to send power to the front or all wheels.
There is also a PHEV version of the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica. It uses the same engine detuned to 260 hp and an electric motor with 32 miles of electric-only range. The hybrid is FWD only.
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica has a five-star rating from the US NHTSA and comes with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control and active lane control.
Surround view cameras are an optional extra.
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is probably the most logical option right now for moving the family around if you don’t want a big SUV. While this isn’t a small vehicle, it doesn’t drive or feel like an SUV and for that reason, we recommend it to families across Ontario.
