Some eagle-eyed journalists spotted some documents submitted to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for two new Forte5 variants. No news here except the return of the Forte5. What is news is the 1.6-litre engine mentioned in the documents that is believed to be Kia’s turbocharged four cylinder.
It’s all speculation right now but Kia already makes a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine for the Soul. It’s a powerful little motor that delivers 201 hp at the front wheels. For a car this small and light, the power to weight is going to be truly impressive!
There are four Forte trims mentioned in the CARB document a version with smart cruise control, one without, one with a dual clutch transmission and one without. All share the same engine.
The car in the image was leaked at the Montreal Auto Show and clearly shows a Kia Forte5 in all its glory. While not specifically linked to the new engine, it is likely that this model will have the new motor and will make its way back to North America in all its glory.
The Kia Forte does well for a small car but the new look Forte5 with the potential turbocharged engine would prove once and for all that the sedan is far from dead!
2019 Kia Forte
The 2019 Kia Forte is a well-designed car that has the poise and balance we look for. With the signature Kia design language and the usual excellent value, there is a lot to recommend this car if you’re not going for a crossover.
The design is modern and well balanced. It has a long curved hood, narrow grille and angled lights. The windshield is laid back and flows over a curved roof to a short trunk section at the rear. The back end has a small light cluster and little else to distract you from the design.
Inside, the Forte is surprisingly spacious. Each seat can easily fit a full sized adult in comfort with leg and headroom to spare. Seats are comfortable, materials are great quality and the standard of finishing is very good. Technology is everywhere too which adds to its appeal.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine that produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six speed manual or CVT transmission to power the front wheels.
The 2019 Kia Forte has a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the US IIHS if you specify the LED headlights. It can also come with automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
There is a lot of car for not a lot of money in the 2019 Kia Forte. See how much you like it at Georgetown Kia, 199 and 314 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario.
