IIHS Picks Record 115 Models for 2012 The US based, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety published its final list of 2012 models rated Top Safety Picks. A record 115 models were selected this year. A remarkable number given that there were only 11 selected in 2005 when the insurance industry's safety agency started its own crash testing and rating, separate from the US Federal government's crash tests.
